Product Photography for Coastal Karnataka Brands: Cashews, Spices, Seafood & More

Selling cashews, spices, pickles, handloom or seafood online? Your photos do most of the selling. Here is how coastal Karnataka brands can get product photography right for websites, Amazon and Instagram.

Product Photography for Coastal Karnataka Brands: Cashews, Spices, Seafood & More

Coastal Karnataka makes things people across India love — cashews from Puttur and Mangaluru, spices and pickles, handloom sarees from Udupi, coffee, jackfruit products and seafood. More of these brands now sell online, on their own websites, on marketplaces and through Instagram.

Online, the customer can’t touch, smell or taste anything. Your photographs are the product. Here is how to make them work harder.

The shots every product page needs

  • A clean hero shot on a plain white or light background — marketplaces often require this, and it keeps your catalog consistent.
  • Close-up texture shots — the crunch of a W240 cashew, the oil on a mango pickle, the weave of a saree border.
  • Scale and quantity — what does 500 g actually look like? Show it in a bowl, in hand or next to the pack.
  • Packaging front and back, so buyers can read ingredients, weight and shelf life.
  • A lifestyle shot that tells your story — cashews on a festive plate, spices next to a kadai, a saree at a wedding.

Make it feel local

Your origin is a selling point. Props and settings can quietly say “coastal Karnataka”: banana leaves, brass and copper vessels, laterite stone, red Mangalore tiles, coconut shells, the morning light of the coast. Used sparingly, these details make your brand feel authentic rather than generic.

Common mistakes we see

  • Inconsistent lighting — every product shot on a different day looks like a different brand.
  • Colours that don’t match reality — especially with spices and textiles, this leads to returns and bad reviews.
  • Phone photos with heavy filters — fine for a quick story, not for a product listing.
  • Wrong sizes — each platform (your website, Amazon, Instagram, WhatsApp catalog) needs different crops. Plan for them at the shoot.

Plan the shoot before you shoot

A good product shoot starts with a shot list: every product, every angle, every crop, every platform. Group similar products, prepare packaging in advance (no dents or dusty jars), and decide on one consistent background and lighting setup. A well-planned day can deliver a full catalog — plus social content for months.

Online shoppers can’t taste your product. Good photography is the closest thing to a free sample.
